American Legion NY Post #381
Veterans still serving America: Honoring the past, empowering the present, shaping the future.
For over a century, The American Legion has stood as the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, dedicated to the four pillars of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.
Our Mission
Founded in 1919, The American Legion is built on Four Pillars of service and advocacy: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. NY Post #381 continues this proud tradition of service to veterans, their families, and our community.
Who We Are
The American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth, sponsoring wholesome community programs, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.
NY Post #381 is part of this proud tradition, serving veterans and the community since our founding. We welcome all eligible veterans who have honorably served their country during times of conflict.
Our Legacy
The American Legion changed the course of history by writing the original GI Bill, which has helped millions of veterans receive education benefits and transition successfully to civilian life. We remain committed to ensuring all veterans receive the benefits they've earned through their service and sacrifice.
Our members are brothers and sisters in arms who continue to serve beyond their military careers, making a difference in communities nationwide through volunteer service, advocacy, and camaraderie.
The Four Pillars
Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation
We advocate for quality healthcare, timely processing of benefits claims and appeals, fair employment opportunities, and ending veteran homelessness. Our service officers help veterans navigate VA benefits and provide support for wounded warriors.
National Security
We support a strong national defense, full accounting of POW/MIAs, and improved quality of life for military personnel and their families. We stand behind our troops and their mission to protect America's interests at home and abroad.
Americanism
We promote patriotism, respect for the flag, and civic responsibility. Our programs include Boys State, Oratorical Contests, and support for Scouting. We defend the U.S. Constitution and advocate for law and order in our communities.
Children & Youth
We believe in "A Square Deal for Every Child" through scholarships, American Legion Baseball, Junior Shooting Sports, and other youth programs. We fight against child exploitation and support families of military personnel serving far from home.
